FDC Party Achieves 70% Signature Collection Target For Presidential Race

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced that it has successfully collected 70% of the required signatures from at least 98 districts as part of the nomination process for its presidential candidate, Hon. Nandala Mafabi.

During a press briefing held today at the party headquarters, FDC leaders reported significant progress in distributing nomination forms and mobilizing support, particularly in rural areas.

However, they also decried continued harassment and intimidation allegedly perpetrated by elements linked to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and certain security agencies.

While addressing journalists, FDC leaders expressed gratitude to their supporters for enabling them to reach 70% of the required nomination signatures—collected from at least 98 districts as per the Electoral Commission guidelines for presidential bids.

However, the party strongly condemned what it described as a campaign of intimidation by NRM-aligned vigilantes and some security personnel, allegedly aimed at disrupting their signature collection process.

FDC is now calling for a peaceful and violence-free electoral season and urged the Electoral Commission to assert greater control over the conduct of security organs in the run-up to the 2026 general elections.

As the 2026 general election nears, FDC says it remains undeterred by these challenges and will continue to gather the remaining signatures while advocating for democratic values and peaceful participation.
